Harry Potter and Robots
In an attempt to prove that I am not closed minded, I have been reading all the Harry Potter books. I am currently half way through The Order of the Phoenix and there is a copy of Deathly Hallows in the house currently being read by my nearest and dearest. It’s been an interesting experience reading all the HP books back to back for the last week or so. I have to say that Rowling is not a great writer but she understands genre and formula and more importantly understands what children will take to their little young hearts. I will comment more once I have finished the whole wizardy lot.
I have seen a preview screening of Transformers and I have to say that my expectations were extremely low primarily because it’s directed by that hack Michael Bay. What I got was pretty much what I expected. Lots of loud people doing things loudly while loud things happen around them. It was like having my head shoved in a blender on a high speed setting while my arms flailed wildly trying to find the off switch. The most disturbing aspect of the film is its distasteful xenophobia and racism. Every non white character was a figure of fun and Michael Bay ought to be banned from making any more films. Both Jon Voight and John Turturro should hang their heads in shame for agreeing to appear in this tripe. Whatever the figures was on the checks boys, I hope it was worth selling your souls for.
